Our purpose: Empowering individuals for self-sufficiency

Community Housing Connections Inc. is dedicated to preventing youth violence and providing transitional housing along with a continuum of supportive services. Our goal is to empower homeless and underserved individuals to achieve self-sufficiency and long-term stability. We foster personal development by offering Basic Adult Education, GED preparation, and testing services to address significant barriers like illiteracy and limited educational attainment.

We connect participants to vital community-based services, employment training, and educational opportunities through strong partnerships with local nonprofits, government agencies, and community stakeholders. Our interdisciplinary program addresses challenges such as illiteracy, dysfunctional family systems, lack of self-discipline, and limited work ethic by promoting structured routines and requiring active participation. We are dedicated to cultivating civic responsibility within our community in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Andre's journey: From foster care to financial freedom

At 18, Andre aged out of the foster care system with a heavy sense of uncertainty. He was a natural with tech and cars, but on paper, he was "invisible." Without a bank account or a credit score, he couldn’t even apply for a basic apartment or get a phone plan in his own name.

That’s when he connected with a housing transition program at Community Housing Connections. His caseworker, Mr. Henderson, didn’t just hand him a key; he handed him a roadmap to independence. The program’s first move was bringing Andre to a local credit union. Having never stepped foot in a bank, Andre was nervous about fees and "fine print." Because of the program’s partnership, the bank waived the minimum balance requirements. When Andre walked out with his first debit card, he realized he no longer had to carry his life savings in cash. It was the first time he felt his money was truly safe.

Our team and volunteers: Giving back to the community

Our team and volunteers are the heart of Community Housing Connections. Many of the individuals involved in helping the community are people who grew up attending programs at the Happy Hollow Recreation Center. They feel a personal mission to give back to the place that shaped them, bringing a deep understanding and passion to our work. Their dedication ensures that our programs are not just effective but also delivered with empathy and a genuine desire to uplift others.

"Community Housing Connections has created a ripple effect of positive change throughout Philadelphia, truly transforming lives with their holistic approach."
